In 1969, a young woman looking to make a living stepped into The Broadway Theater to apply for the job opening of Usherette. Getting the job turned out to be more than she bargained for. At a typical Saturday matinee, Velvet entered the projectionist booth to investigate a problem, only to be stabbed and electrocuted by the monstrous Mr. Wallen. Her burning body tumbled out of the booth onto the screen, thought to be part of the show. Velvet did not die, however. She rose, craving the flesh of the living, doomed to work the Broadway for eternity.
